Croatia resembles croissant, with a long Adriatic coastline forming the southern end, and the land between the rivers Drava and Sava forming the northern end. The capital, Zagreb, sits on the intersection of the these regions.

The Adriatic coastline is the most prominent feature of Croatia and it spans 430 km from Istrian peninsula in the north to Dubrovnik in the south. The coast is highly indented (total lenght without islands is about 1.500 km) with rocky cliffs and many small inlets. The Adriatic coastline has as many as 1.185 islands, while the 1.500 meter high Dinaric Alps run along the coast to divide it from inland.
